Hulled Buckwheat Seeds in Bulk Organic

How do I cook hulled buckwheat groats?

Five minutes of cooking, then twenty minutes resting covered, off the heat: that is the guide Kazidomi Vrac gives. The grains finish swelling during the rest and stay separate. Rinsing first under cold water takes off the surface starch and avoids a sticky texture at the end.

Does buckwheat contain gluten?

Buckwheat is not a cereal but the seed of a flowering plant, and it carries no gluten by nature. Kazidomi Vrac sells it loose by weight, which does not rule out traces of other products during handling. For strict intolerance, the statements on the packaging remain the reference.

Buckwheat groats or sesame seeds: what is each one for?

The hulled buckwheat from Kazidomi Vrac is a grain you boil, like rice, and it forms the base of a dish. Sesame is a small oilseed you scatter as a garnish, never as a main portion. The quantities and the uses are therefore in no way comparable.

Can they be eaten without cooking?

Yes. The hulled groats from Kazidomi Vrac can also be dry-roasted for a few minutes in a pan, then crushed over a muesli, a yoghurt or a salad. Soaked overnight and then rinsed, they are used raw in raw granola preparations, with a softer texture.

Where are they from and what is the size?

From Lithuania, and they come from organic farming. Kazidomi Vrac offers them by weight in a 500 g bag, with no ingredient beyond the hulled seed. They keep somewhere cool and dry, in a closed jar, away from the damp that softens them and makes them clump.
