Are these sunflower seeds hulled?

Yes, they are sold without their striped shell: only the pale kernel is left, ready to use. Kazidomi Vrac sunflower seeds are therefore eaten exactly as they come, with no preparation. The ingredient list runs to the organic seed alone, with no salt, no oil and no added flavouring.

Sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds: which should I choose?

The Kazidomi Vrac sunflower is smaller and milder, with a hazelnut note that fits anywhere. The pumpkin seed is bigger, dark green, chewier and far more pronounced. On a salad the sunflower keeps quiet; the pumpkin makes itself both seen and tasted.

How do I toast them?

A few minutes in a dry pan over a medium heat, stirring constantly, until they turn golden and start to smell of hazelnut. Kazidomi Vrac seeds go from golden to burnt very fast: tip them out of the pan onto a cold plate the moment the colour arrives.

Which recipes take them?

A loaf or muffins, mixed into the dough; a home-made granola; the top of a soup, a salad or roast vegetables. Kazidomi Vrac sunflower seeds also blend into a paste for a tree-nut-free pesto, with basil, olive oil and a little garlic.

How do I store them?

Somewhere cool and dry, in a closed container, as Kazidomi Vrac indicates. These are oily seeds: heat and light turn them rancid, which leaves a bitter taste you recognise straight away. The bag holds 500 g and is sold loose by weight, so a jar to decant into is worth having.
