Linseed from France in Bulk Organic

Where do these linseeds come from?

France, and that is what sets this Kazidomi Vrac reference apart from the other linseed in the range, which is grown in Poland. The seeds come from organic farming and are sold loose by weight in a 500 g bag, with no salt and no seasoning. The seed is the whole list.

French-grown linseed or the other linseed in the range?

Both are used in exactly the same way, in the kitchen and in baking. The Kazidomi Vrac seed grown in France answers a wish for a short supply chain; the other bag comes from Poland. Nothing else on the two sheets differs: same seed, same handling, same bag size.

How do I get them into a home-made loaf?

Whole, folded into the dough at the end of kneading, roughly a handful for one loaf, or scattered over the surface before baking after damping the crust slightly. Kazidomi Vrac linseeds stay crunchy through the oven and leave a hazelnut note in the crumb.

Can I put them in a smoothie?

Yes, and this is the case where grinding them first pays off: the blender cracks the seed and releases its mucilage, which thickens the drink noticeably. A spoonful of Kazidomi Vrac seed is enough for one glass. Left standing, the mixture keeps gelling and turns very dense.

What storage conditions do they need?

Somewhere cool and dry, out of the light, in a well-closed container: that is what Kazidomi Vrac indicates. The whole seed keeps far better than a ground one, whose fat turns within days. A bitter taste, or a smell of paint, marks a batch to throw out.
