Pumpkin Seeds in Bulk Organic

Where do these pumpkin seeds come from?

Poland, grown organically. Kazidomi Vrac sells them hulled, loose by weight, in a 500 g bag. The list of ingredients is the seed and nothing else: no salt, no oil, no flavouring. Their dark green colour and flat, pointed shape make them easy to pick out of a mixture.

Pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds: which should I buy?

The pumpkin seed is larger, dark green and firmer under the tooth, with a fuller taste. The sunflower seed sold loose by Kazidomi Vrac is smaller, paler and much quieter, which suits a bread dough or a granola where you want texture without a strong flavour. Pumpkin stands out; sunflower blends in.

Can I eat them raw?

Yes, straight from the bag or scattered over a dish. The Kazidomi Vrac pumpkin seeds can also spend a few minutes in a hot dry pan, with a splash of soy sauce if you like, which puffs them slightly and makes them crack. They come out crunchier and work as a nibble.

How do I cook with them?

Add them at the table to a salad, a pumpkin soup, a houmous, a risotto or a mash. The Kazidomi Vrac seeds also go into a home-made loaf, a granola or a cereal bar. Chopped, they stand in for tree nuts in a pesto or in a crust for fish.

What is the right way to store them?

Somewhere cool and dry, out of the light, in an airtight jar: that is what Kazidomi Vrac prints on the bag. Hulled seeds have lost their shell, so the fat in them turns faster. A seed that has gone soft, or that tastes bitter, has aged and the bag should go.
