Honey Sesame Almonds Loose Organic

How are these almonds made?

The almonds are lightly toasted, then coated in honey and brown cane sugar and rolled in toasted sesame seeds. Kazidomi Vrac has them made in France from fair trade ingredients. The coating stays thin: the crunch comes from the toasted almond itself, not from a thick layer around it.

Honey and sesame or caramelised almonds: which is sweeter?

Honey rounds the coating off and the sesame leaves a toasted, almost savoury note at the finish, so the honey and sesame version works on contrast. The caramelised one, made with cane sugar alone, stays frankly sweet. Kazidomi Vrac sells both loose by weight in a 250 g bag.

Are there allergens?

Yes, two allergens that must be declared appear in the recipe: almonds, which are tree nuts, and sesame seeds. The product also contains honey, so it does not suit a vegan diet. Kazidomi Vrac prints both allergens in capitals in the ingredient list on the bag.

When do I serve them?

With drinks in place of crisps, in a bowl of dried fruit and nuts, on a cheeseboard, or crushed over a carrot or cabbage salad. The Kazidomi Vrac honey and sesame almonds also work as a topping for a cake, where the sesame stays visible and cracks under the tooth.

How do I keep them crunchy?

Store them in an airtight jar, dry, away from heat: a honey coating takes up moisture and turns tacky in open air. Bring the Kazidomi Vrac almonds out at the last moment rather than leaving them sitting in an open bowl for a whole evening.
