What is a coconut chip?

A slice of ripe coconut flesh, cut wide and then dried until it turns crisp. The Kazidomi Vrac coconut chips come from Sri Lanka and are grown organically. Cutting into slices is what separates them from desiccated coconut, which is far finer and made for other uses.

Coconut chips or desiccated coconut: what does the cut change?

Texture and use. The Kazidomi Vrac chips are thick slices that crunch and can be eaten as they are, on a smoothie bowl or in a granola. Desiccated coconut, very fine, disappears into a cake batter or a truffle coating. Weight for weight, the chip is far more visible on the plate.

How do I use them?

Scattered over porridge, yoghurt or a fruit salad, in a homemade granola, or in a mix of dried fruit and nuts to carry with you. Kazidomi Vrac coconut chips also take a few minutes in a dry pan or a low oven, which colours them and lifts the toasted aroma.

Do they lose their crunch?

Yes, if they take up moisture. Kazidomi Vrac asks for them to be kept somewhere cool, dry and out of the light, in an airtight container closed again after use. Softened, they can be rescued with a few minutes in a low oven, and firm up once they have fully cooled.

What size is the bag and how far does it go?

The bag holds 250 g, served by weight at Kazidomi Vrac with no individual wrapping. It is a light, bulky product: 250 g of slices fills far more volume than the same weight of dense dried fruit. A handful covers the surface of a breakfast bowl.
