Clear Vegan Protein Lemon

How do I make the drink?

Tip 13.5 g of powder, roughly a level tablespoon, into 500 ml of water, close the shaker and shake hard for a few seconds. The Pulse Protein clear range gives a see-through drink, not a thick milky shake. Serve it cold, since the chill sharpens the lemon considerably.

Lemon or peach: which one?

Lemon is sharply tart, on a lemon and lime note, very pale in the glass and clean at the finish. The peach from Pulse Protein is softer and rounder, built on white peach, with a pink tint from beetroot and carrot. Lemon for briskness, peach for something gentler.

What is in the powder?

Clear pea protein at 85.2%, lemon juice powder, citric acid, malic acid, a lemon and lime flavouring and stevia extract, which brings the sweetness with no sugar added. The Pulse Protein formula is entirely plant-based and made in the Netherlands, and comes in a 405 g tub.

How does it compare with an ordinary protein powder?

An ordinary powder goes into milk or a plant drink and gives a thick, opaque shake. This one dissolves in water and stays clear, closer to a long cold drink than to a milkshake. Pulse Protein sets the dose at 13.5 g per 500 ml, well under the scoops creamy shakes ask for.

How do I store the tub?

Somewhere cool and dry, out of the light, with the lid pressed firmly back on after every serving: the powder draws in damp and clumps if it is left open. The 405 g Pulse Protein tub holds around thirty doses of 13.5 g, best scooped out with a dry spoon.
