Where does the ravintsara in this bottle come from?

Ravintsara comes from the camphor tree, an Asian species brought to Madagascar several centuries ago, where it developed a profile of its own. Kazidomi distils the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora harvested on the island, and the 10 ml bottle is then prepared in France. It holds that oil alone, pure and organic.

Ravintsara or tea tree: what is the difference?

Both Kazidomi bottles are distilled from foliage, and there the resemblance stops. Ravintsara, from Cinnamomum camphora in Madagascar, pairs eucalyptol with sabinene and smells fresh and camphorous. Tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia from South Africa, is led by terpinen-4-ol and comes across as woody and rather sharp.

How is ravintsara essential oil taken?

Diluted in a spoonful of honey, in vegetable oil or on a sugar lump, never neat, and without exceeding the daily amount or the length of course that Kazidomi prints on the pack. Where medicines are being taken at the same time there is a risk of interaction, so a health professional should be consulted.

Are there contraindications to ravintsara?

Kazidomi does not advise it for pregnant or breastfeeding women, for children under six, nor for under-twelves with a history of convulsions. Medical advice is asked for in cases of antiepileptic treatment or neurological disorders. The bottle is kept closed, dry and out of the reach of children.

Why does the label specify the leaf?

Because Cinnamomum camphora yields very different oils depending on which part is distilled and where the tree grows. Kazidomi therefore states the leaf and the chemotype, eucalyptol and sabinene, since another provenance of the same species produces a quite different composition under the same botanical name.
